The top summer interior design trends for 2022

With summer fast approaching, we take a look at five of the most popular interior design trends, as picked by numerous experts, for 2022

Whether it’s a new extension that needs decorating or whether you just want to spruce up your home, we always want our home to look as good as it can be.

When the time does come to redecorate though, naturally we’re drawn to current trends – especially if we can’t decide ourselves exactly how we want to decorate our living spaces.

With that in mind, we have identified five of the most popular summer interior design trends that we – and several experts – have noticed emerging this year.

Painted ceilings

Colour drenching – so picking one colour and then painting it across many different surfaces in one localised area – is something that is proving to be very popular and in 2022, it appears this is extending to painting the ceiling, too.

The main reasons to paint the ceiling are to firstly give the room a more welcoming and cosier feel, but also to reduce any visual noise that might appear when it’s two different colours.

Painted ceilings certainly offer a very distinct look, especially when the common theme for most is to have white ceilings, so this is a quick way to give your home a unique feel.

Biophilic design

Of course, another option to breathe life into your home is to have life breathing in your home! Biophilic design taps into a love for nature and connects you to it, so it’s a case of bringing natural elements into your home.

This can range from painting indoor walls a shade of green, having lots of plants in and around window ledges or the house in general and maybe even things like a small water fountain.

Mixed in with some natural daylight, bringing the outside in can not only boost your mental well-being, but also make your home stand out in all the right ways.

Introducing copper

This is more of a trend for mainly kitchens and bathrooms than for painting rooms, but it appears that copper elements are really starting to gain traction.

For hardware, brass and matt black finishes have been the two leaders when it has come to interior design trends, however copper is rapidly challenging them and brings with it a new look and feel as a result.

Copper elements work particularly well with seats for marble dining tables in addition to taps and storage and it will be interesting to see how popular this trend gets over the summer.

Cottagecore

This has perhaps come as a result of the staycation boom in lockdown, but there is certainly a lot of momentum and buzz about cottagecore – a new term that has caught the eye of many on the internet.

Some are using this to create a time capsule of sorts – a 50’s style décor with chalky paint surfaces and Venetian plaster walls – but lots of people are trying to capture that sense of traditional, rural life in their homes.

Throw in some vintage pieces and a pastel makeover and you’ll have a part of your home that feels like a traditional British holiday cottage down in Cornwall, as well as a place to get away from everything.

Restful blues

The signs that pale blue was going to be a major trend in 2022 were firmly written on the wall when Dulux chose Bright Skies – a soft blue – as their 2022 colour of the year.

Complimenting grey superbly, a soft and pale blue gives a peaceful feel to any room and also makes it feel light and fresh, helping to remove any stress and to add calm and peace of mind.

With homeowners looking to give rooms a new lease of life, restful blues are certainly proving to be very popular.

There are several benefits to daylighting and making your home as bright as possible – you can read some of those reasons here.
