What Was Done?

The

north-facing rear of this semi detached property was previously a separate

kitchen and dining room that were both relatively dark and not big enough to accommodate visiting family and friends.

In order to create a family friendly

light, bright and versatile space for cooking, eating and relaxing in, the two rooms were knocked through into one.

The space was then extended out into the garden to create a huge

area that was almost 8m2 in total and holds

a kitchen area, ten-seater dining table, two sofas and room to spare.

From start to finish - including full kitchen fitting - the project took about four months.

How Have The Changes Improved The Home?

The creation of a large, open plan space has transformed the overall functionality of the home, creating a much more contemporary space in which the family spends 90% of its time.

The room has become the heart of the home and is now the perfect setting

for entertaining guests with easy access out into the garden through the uPVC French doors.

The extra natural light has made a huge difference to the space. It’s North facing so the amount of natural light previously was very limited and it would often feel dark and cold.

Everyone comments on how bright and airy it is now, even on grey Winter days.

What Daylight Was Added?

A trio of

RoofLITE+ pitched roof windows were installed across the back of the extension to shower natural light down into the room and

enhance the connection between the indoors and out.

The windows have a centre pivot opening style

to provide extra ventilation during the summer.

uPVC French doors and picture windows were also fitted in the back wall - providing access to, and lovely views of, the garden.

The amount of glass used works

well with the coastal colour palette prominent throughout the space to make a beautiful, welcoming and relaxed place to spend time with the family.
