What Was Done?
The back of this semi-detached home in the north west of England was previously a small 3x4m conservatory which had stood for 20 years. This was connected to an
average-sized kitchen
and living room.
In its place is a modern 3x7m
single-storey extension with
50 square meters of open plan space
for cooking, dining and relaxing, capped off by two visually impressive Korniche roof lanterns showering natural light down from above.
Two sets of large steel beams had to be installed to
support the back of the original house and the existing two-storey rear extension.
How Have The Changes Improved The Home?
The new open-plan living design has given the family the space they require to grow as a family and enjoy multiple purpose areas within the same room.
The 9-week renovation project
includes a new family bathroom, utility area and raised patio area with all rear windows and all new rear rendering.
The family can look ahead to more normal times
and using
the new bright and contemporary social space to entertain
friends and family
for years to come.
What Daylight Was Added?
The standout feature of the project is without a doubt the twin Korniche glass roof lanterns perched about the extension’s flat roof.
The grey (external) on white (internal) aluminium lanterns are built with sleek and elegant lines to maximise the flow of natural light and enhance sightlines from within the home.
The lantern’s energy efficiency will also work to ensure the space stays at a more comfortable temperature all year round without overheating, unlike some
traditional conservatories.

The natural light element is always at the heart of every design and build we undertake.
The Korniche roof lanterns used within this build has not only given the space the natural light it deserves and requires, but it has also given the build a ceiling feature in which to use our own internal lighting details.
