How to find your VELUX code and window size

Six Things You Need To Know About Sun TunnelsSix Things You Need To Know About Sun Tunnels

Every VELUX window has its own personalised sign that consists of codes telling you what window you have, but finding it isn’t always obvious.

If you are here, there is a strong chance that you are looking to add a VELUX blind or accessory to your VELUX window, or upgrade/replace your glazing, but are unsure as to what code your window is. It is important to know your code, otherwise you run the risk of ordering the wrong product – which is the very last thing we want for you.

So, with that in mind, we have not only devised a handy table for you below to identify exactly what you’ll need per code, but also how you can find the code for your VELUX window.

Finding the data plate

All VELUX roof windows made after 1968 have a data plate (or type sign) giving exact information about the model.

This is located in the right corner of the top sash, just behind the ventilation flap. For further guidance, the video below will help you locate your data plate.

Working out your VELUX window codes

You may have noticed that some sun tunnels have a dome that sits on top of the roof, while others have a flat glass panel instead.

These panels are certainly very stylish and can be installed to match existing windows, while the domes are also very aesthetically pleasing and will certainly be a standout feature on your roof.

However, there is more to them than just their appearance and it’s important to note just how the light reflects off a flat surface, but refracts when it meets a clear dome.

Essentially, this means once the light hits the flat panel, some of the light is lost by means of reflection, so with that in mind, domes stand out as they actually refract the light inwards, thus capturing extra light compared to their counterparts.
