However, we have also now started to notice some interesting trends around how to maximise the potential of a spare room!

In this article, we will go over four of the most trendy and alternate rooms people are putting into place to improve their home.

 

Homework room

Those with children will know that getting homework done on the kitchen table or in the dining room can be a bit of a pain and would like a better option.

 

As a result, people have started to

 

create

 

homework rooms in their house, with the aim of the room growing with the child and subsequently turning into a study room and then a home office – which, of course, many parents have these days as a result of working from home.

 

Recent statistics have suggested home schooling has notably gone up as a result of the pandemic, so having a set space could work wonders and stop making rest areas in the house feel like work places.

 

These spaces can be as part of a play area or just a set room, adding colour, desks and interactive smart boards, a homework room is proving to be a very popular way of improving your home.

 

Barkitecture

We’ve normally associated specialist rooms for pets with the rich and famous – most notably, Queen’s Freddie Mercury having rooms (plural!) for his cats.

However, more and more people are starting to get on the trend now and rooms with specialist pet furniture are on the rise.
These are simple enough to put together if you have the space and best of all, you don’t really need that much room for them. It can have a certain chair, a basket, some shelves for cats to climb and sit on, a blanket and also be filled with toys!

For dog owners, it gives owners a chance to clean the dog down before they get muddy paws all over the house!

 

Library

We’ve covered before about how a reading corner can really boost your home, which you can read here, but having your own library is a next level way of improving your home.

With a floor to ceiling bookcase (or bookcases), a desk, a chair and maybe a sofa, you can completely transform your spare room into something highly sophisticated and can even double up as a home office if need be.

 

The shelving units themselves aren’t too difficult to put together either, although if you do require some custom ones, that may be a bit fiddly, but all in all it’s a very easy way to maximise the potential of your home.

 

Yoga studio

If you are into yoga and have a spare room, this is one of the easiest conversions you could make and would give you a permanent place in the house to achieve level zen.

 

All you need to convert a spare room into a yoga studio is some mats, a sofa, a stand where you can put a diffuser and some décor – maybe in the shape of a few inspirational quotes – and you’re set!

One thing people who do yoga find difficult is re-arranging their front room or bedroom to make space, so to have a set area for their hobby is an absolute must if there is a spare room going.
