Victorian London flat renovation

Project Type: Side-return extension/complete refurb
House Type: Apartment
Location: Fulham, West London
Time Taken: Four months
Built by: Roci Building Services
Daylight: VELUX pitched roof windows
What was done?
The client, Made in Chelsea's Tiffany Watson, wanted an open plan kitchen to add more space and light to the property, so she opted for a side-return extension.
This allowed for the space to be maximised to make socialising and entertaining guests a priority. A kitchen peninsula was added to make the area both functional yet relaxing.
In addition, the client was torn between a full glass roof or installing three pitched roof windows, eventually choosing the latter as a result of privacy concerns.
A wall was erected and rendered, with the client choosing to paint the exterior a mood-enhancing shade of grey.

How have the changes improved the home?
Immediately, the feel of the kitchen area has been transformed as a result of the changes, with Tiffany feeling as though the space has gone from a small and dingy kitchen, into a light, modern, open-plan one.
The windows have made a huge impact, filling the space with natural light: exactly what the Made in Chelsea star was after at the start of the project.
Most importantly, Tiffany believes the new renovation has a feel that is very much more to her style and tastes.
What daylight was added?
Three VELUX INTEGRA GGU Electric White PU Noise Reduction roof windows were installed, which enabled a lot of light to enter the property that just wasn’t possible before.
With an electric wall switch operation in place, all of the windows can be opened and closed within seconds and have a noiseless motor fully integrated into each.
In addition, they are triple-glazed, but perhaps most importantly for the client given they live in London, the windows have a 37db noise reduction glazing, meaning less sound can get in.
