How easy is it to fit a Korniche roof lantern? Well if you are to go by the thoughts of Roger Bisby from Skill Builder, featured in the video above, the whole installation “is a dream”, with an instruction booklet which “deserves an award of its own.”
This installer friendly design helped Korniche pick up the prestigious Charles Godfrey Memorial Award For Innovation in the building industry last year.
We have experienced this speed of installation ourselves earlier this year, when two of our non-builder sales team were able to put together a unit without too much difficulty.
Units can be fitted in minutes as demonstrated by a team from Korniche below to save time on site and ensure the roof is watertight and secure in the shortest possible time.
Installing a Korniche Lantern
Korniche lanterns are specifically manufactured with the trade in mind, evidenced by the precision engineering and clever detail that makes the job of the installer easier.
Silicone is needed purely around the base of the external upstand for the unit to sit on. No sealant is needed to connect any other aluminium or glazing parts.
The beams come with pre-drilled holes that cut out the need for any measuring or marking while ensuring the right number of fittings go into the unit. All components simply push, click and screw into place with ease, no packers or shims needed.
This friendly installation means units up to and around 200cm long can be easily carried out by a single person. Naturally, larger units will require an extra pair of hands.
Once The Lantern is Installed...

Once installed, a Korniche aluminium roof lantern will look mightily impressive perched up in the roof with its slimline frame and clean lines providing clear views of the sky above.
Below, the room will enjoy a wealth of sunlight from the ‘more glass, less rafter’ design, making the space naturally brighter and cheaper to light.
End users will also benefit from the lantern’s 100% thermally broken structure that eliminates cold bridging. Korniche roof lanterns carry a low U-value of 1.2 W/m²K.
The glazing panes are Low-E coated on the inside to help trap heat inside the building and treated with self-cleaning protection on the outside to lower maintenance requirements for the homeowner.
For extra comfort, Korniche use the best factory fitted seals and gaskets available throughout the unit and an innovative glass lock system with tamper proof fasteners that are invisible when looking up from inside a room, just like all other fittings.
