What's the difference between roof windows, rooflights & skylights?
The biggest difference between roof windows, rooflights and skylights (as the terms are used on Sterlingbuild), is skylights don't meet Building Regulations and so are limited to use in uninhabited spaces, such as lofts and outbuildings.
You can find more information on the Planning Portal. Roof windows are for use on pitched roofs, such as loft conversions. Likewise, rooflights are used on flat roofs, again, for home extensions and public buildings.
Flat Glass Rooflights
We sell an extensive range of flat glass rooflights. You'll find a size to meet any budget, from our pocket friendly ECO+ range (low U-values, great design, next day delivery) to Signature (wide range of glazing and ventilation options). This style of rooflight offers a contemporary finish to your property, adding daylight, insulation and a greater feeling of space.
There are a range of opening styles to choose from. Opening rooflights are available in manual and electric, while fixed rooflights are available if you already have another source of ventilation. Glazing options include double, triple and the impressive quadruple glazed models, along with finishes that include blue and bronze tint to provide privacy and soften sunlight.
And let's not forget walk-on rooflights and floorlights. These amazing flush glass flat windows add daylight to rooms below without losing out on floor space.
Lantern rooflights will make a huge impact on your space. Like flat glass rooflights, lanterns will flood your room with daylight, but, due to their size and design, roof lanterns open up your roof a lot more. We offer a range of sizes and prices from brands such as Korniche (low U-values, great design) to REAL's state of the art, aluminium lanterns.
Roof lanterns come in fixed and manual operation styles with an option for an electric ventilation system for added air flow. Several glazing options and colour combinations are available. For smaller spaces, pyramid shaped lanterns are a practical choice, giving a fantastic feature to your home.
