Using Flexitec 2020 with Gutters
We're frequently asked by customers about the most effective way to seal joints between industrial guttering and how best to waterproof industrial gutters that are leaking. One solution that we recommend is the use of Flexitec 2020 from Res-Tec Roofing Systems as a great option to waterproof your gutters.
In this post, we summarise a few key points to help ensure you carry out a successful application. Please read our other post 'Res-Tec Flexitec 2020 Roofing System' which explains the benefits and detailed applications of Flexitex 2020. As always, if you have any questions please contact our team on 0333 700 11 11.
Coating Lined Gutters
Contractors must always perform a suitability check of the substrate which may result in you needing to perform an adhesion test.
If the gutter has an existing waterproof coating (such as GRP or single-ply) then you can treat it as you would a roof or balcony; apply Flexitec 2020 Primer (where required) and Resin with 225g/m Chopped Strand Mat, then a final coat of Flexitec 2020 Resin. Note - a full two coat system is required and if you have any concerns regarding compatibility of the existing substrate, perform an adhesion test in accordance with the Flexitec 2020 application manual.
Coating Metal Gutters
This is classed as a "non-standard" application and we always advise that you contact us to discuss suitability before application. There are a few important pointers that apply to most gutter applications including:
- All lap joints and other points of expansion will require dis-bonding with masking tape prior to local reinforcement;
- Res-Tec Flexitec Metallic Primer will usually be required;
- Areas of significant rusting should be treated with a proprietary rust-converter before priming;
Ensure the membrane can be taken up at least 150mm onto the gutter upstands.
