Tips to install roofing shingles

Roofing shingles are necessary as they provide security to your home. These are made of overlapping elements which makes your roof stronger. A roof protected with roofing shingles is difficult to damage. Installing these is a do-it-yourself job as there is not always a need to spend extra money on professional services. Here are few tips to install roofing shingles:

Keep these things handy

Below is the list of things that should be kept handy while installing roofing shingles. These include;

€¢ Roofing shingles
€¢ Hammer
€¢ Shingle nails
€¢ Chalk line
€¢ Measuring tape
€¢ Vinyl cutters.

Start from the bottom: When you start laying the roofing felt across the roof, start from the bottom moving in the upward direction. Beginning from the top will mess up the installation as they overlap each other. You can nail those using galvanised screws.

The laying of roofing shingles: After nailing down the roofing felt, it is time to lay down the shingles. Before starting the installation, make sure that the felt is secured. Now lay down the strongest sheet of shingles at the bottom and then proceed further.

Make the markings using chalk: Draw horizontal and vertical lines on the already installed roofing shingle for measurements. Now place other shingles according to the lines marked with chalk lines.

Place these properly:
The incorrect placement can lead to leakages. Hence do not keep any gaps between two shingles. Use nails that are specially made for these shingles and fix them at the right place. This will make them stronger.
