Tips to install roofing felt correctly

Roofing felt is nothing but a heavy black paper that has a layer of asphalt. It is available in rolls and has a weather protection layer.

Steps for installing roofing felt

Prepare the boarding -
Prior to installing roofing felt, you should check and clean the boards underneath. This should also be free from debris and moisture. If your boarding is damaged, you should replace it prior to installing roofing felt.

Check for nails -
Sometimes, while removing the old roofing material, the nails do not come out from the material. Because of this it is a good idea to check the boarding over to see if any nails remain. If you remove any nails, you should make sure that there are no wood fragments sticking up through the roof.

Install the roofing felt -
Once the above procedure is done, you are free to install the roofing felt. Start the installation from the edge of the frame and roll the roofing felt out. After laying and adjusting the roofing felt to an appropriate position, nail it in place using roofing nails.

Although the installation of the roofing felt can be done on your own, it is better to hire a professional to do the installation for you. With the experience and expertise they have, you can rest assured that the installation of the felt will be done perfectly.
