Roofing felts are generally applied to dry surfaces. In case the surface is wet let it dry for sometime before laying out the roofing felt. It is also advisable to keep the surface clean from dust and grime before applying the roofing felt. Generally, a felt of 15-20 pounds in weight is used for roofing.

Use proper tools while installing your roof felt. Make sure that the materials used are of industry standards. It is also essential to use underlays that are sturdy and capable of handling your weight. Ideally a 3/4 inch plywood sheet should be used. You should also use quality adhesives.

Make sure that the felt is laid out flat and not in an uneven manner. This avoids damage to the roof felt. While bonding the felt onto the surface ensure that your weight is placed on binds, this gives the felt a curved effect. Using a body harness or scaffolding instead of a ladder will reduce the chances of accidents.
