Roofing materials

When it comes to selecting a new roof for your home, there are some important things you need to consider before making your decision. The cost, style, colour and type of material are some important considerations. As a number of different roofing materials are now available, selecting the one that matches your budget and needs is important.

Some available options with roofing shingles

Asphalt shingles
If you take a look at most roofs in the UK, the majority feature asphalt shingles. It is the most preferred roofing material due to its resiliency, low cost and ease of installation. Standard asphalt shingles are available in a range of different price points, longevity options and colours.

Shakes and wood shingles
These roofing materials can be purchased in southern pine, redwood, cedar and other types of wood. While wood shakes are handmade to offer a rougher look, wood shingles are usually cut by machine. Most shakes and wood shingles either have no ratings or have Class C ratings. This is why it is recommended to look for your local building code prior to deciding upon a type of roofing.

Concrete tiles and clay
Clay tiles, being heavy, require extra roof framing. However, they are non-combustible and highly durable. These roofing materials are available in light colours to adhere to cool roof standards that can easily reflect more than 50% of solar energy.

On the other hand, concrete roof tiles have enduring aesthetics, look elegant and add value to your property. They are not only versatile, but also offer a great amount of protection to homeowners. Thus, you can choose from any of the above roofing materials that best suit your needs.
