Roofing felt

When one wants a home that is perfect, all the small details have to be taken care of. This can be done by starting with the roof over your head. To have a leak-proof beautiful shingled roof, it is necessary to take some precautions. Using roof felts is a good way to get started.

What are roof felts?

Roofing felt is not very noticeable as it works under cover. It is nothing but a layer of asphalt saturated paper which is fixed within the roof shingles. Using roofing felts is not obligatory, but it is sensible to utilise them as they prevent any likely leakages.

What to remember when installing roofing felt

Installing the roofing felt properly and effectively is as important. If one follows these installation guidelines, then it is not such a difficult task.

For your own benefit, it would be good if you stop being stingy or worrying about cost cutting. Bear this in mind when you start installing felts. The purpose of roofing felt is to keep moisture from leaking into your house, so overlap the strips of felt to get the best results.

Another important thing to do when installing these felts is that they have to be smooth after they are placed. Leaving gaps for nails, air, leaves or any other thing can cause serious damage to the sheathing underneath of the felt itself. This can be a frustrating task but it should not be overlooked.

Also, ensure that the sheathing is not wet anywhere. Let the sheathing dry if it is wet before you begin. It may be a test of your patience but the task is crucial to obtain the proper results.
