Roof damage caused by trees

If your home is surrounded by trees, your roof may need a little extra maintenance compared to the average roof. Having trees around your home may provide a beautiful setting, but they also have a few negatives as far as the homeowner is concerned.

Tree roots can cause foundation damage

Trees that are very close to your home can cause subsidence. The roots will literally find their way under your home and can damage the footings your house is built on. The result can be a costly repair bill.

Gutter damage

Leaves from trees can clog up the gutters on your home leading to damp or even water ingress into your home. If the leaves are not cleaned from your gutters on a regular basis, they will quickly accumulate and start causing you problems.

Mould and mildew

Homes that are constantly in the shade of trees can be prone to mould or mildew on wall and roof surfaces. Build up of lichens, moss and other bacteria are commonly seen on roofs that are in the shade of trees. The only thing to do here is to wash the roof to remove any physical debris and then treat the roof with a mould and mildew wash.
