RapidRoof Flat Roof Waterproofing System

We have regular training and product demonstrations at JJ Roofing and Tuesday was the first since I started here a couple of weeks ago.  Chiles Cartwright from Liquid Rubber Sales was visiting to demonstrate their RapidRoof Rapid Curing Seamless Waterproofing System.

The system is a fast drying, rubber based waterproofing for flat roofs and gives a hard wearing anti-skid surface with a 10 year product guarantee.

As I haven't had a roofing background, I was wary that it would have overly complicated mixing and applying procedure but the simplicity of the system meant that the demonstration was quicker than I anticipated.

Rapid Roof uses 1kg of product per square metre of coverage and comes in 10kg tins which are good for the 3 coats that it requires.

It's a binary system with the main product and a catalyst and uses a simple ratio of 1 bottle of catalyst to 1 tin of product. The ratio needs only to be approximate and the product will still cure if the amount of catalyst is off somewhat. As the tin can be used for all coats of a 10m square area it is best to decant the product into a bucket and mix the catalyst in that.

Mixing the product and the catalyst is quick and simple

Once it is mixed you can pour it onto the surface and use a paint roller to push (rather than spread) the mixture over the surface, ensuring a solid surface and a smooth finish.

Pushing the mixture over the surface rather than spreading is the key to a perfect finish.

Wait half an hour and then a second coat can be applied and once that is dried, you have an impervious waterproof membrane, protecting your flat roof from water ingress and giving you peace of mind that even in the worst winter, or if a large amount of leaves and autumn detritus results in pooling, your roof will remain in perfect condition.

If you're like me, very much an amateur when it comes to roofing, this system is something that I would use as I have confidence that I'll be able to achieve a high level of protection and finish.

Thanks to Chiles from the Liquid Rubber Sales team for visiting, demonstrating their excellent product and posing for photos and videos.
