Roof maintenance is a prerequisite of any homeowner, so the roof above their heads stays in good working order and the potential of leaks is reduced to a minimum.
Minor roof maintenance does not usually involve any difficult tasks and can be carried out by just one or two people. For example, replacing a few roof slates would be classed as a minor maintenance task. However, working on a roof is a highly specialised task and should only be done by a competent person who has appropriate supervision.
For roofing tasks that are not considered minor, suitable scaffolding or other method of accessing the roof should be used so the roofer can stay safe. When the repair task has been assessed, you will then have to work out how to access the roof, i.e. how will you safely get on and off the roof and how will you get all the required materials on and off the roof.
Other things that need to be checked before work can begin on a roof include checking the roof is suitable to stand on, and the roof can support the tools and materials you are going to take on the roof with you. The weather conditions during the work must also be assessed before work begins, windy and icy conditions can be a hazard.
