Keep roof shingles in good condition with the following tips

The durability and robust nature of roofing shingles is what makes them ideal for most modern homes. Roofing shingles protect the interior of your home effectively from inclement weather conditions. However, like any other roofing material, shingles are subject to wear and tear after some time.

Proper care can extend the life of your shingles and reduce the maintenance costs when it comes to roofing shingles. Mentioned below are some tips that can help you maintain roofing shingles for many years to come.

Inspection of the roof:
It is advisable to inspect the roof for cracks and debris deposition every now and then. Problems that can reduce the life of your shingles should be dealt with at the earliest opportunity to prevent extra costs. Get rid of moss formation and loose nails as they can lower the life expectancy of your shingles.

Cleaning: Debris is one of the biggest threats to your roof shingles so make sure you clean out any leaves and tree branches from the roof. It is not advisable to allow them to decompose on the roof. Fix loose shingles as these can potentially expose the roofing felt. Washing down the roof with the help of company recommended cleaning agents once every two months is ideal.

Look for discolouration in the attic if you want to inspect the roofing shingles. Damp walls in the attic are an indication of a leaky roof. Also check the areas around chimneys and vents for damage. If there are any, make sure to check those shingles and replace them if necessary.
