How to save money on roofing material spending

There has been a great development in construction technology and materials used over these past few years. But, roofing methods for residential owners is still at the kindergarten level. It is still a labour-intensive process. The silver lining to this dark cloud is that you will not have to spend a large amount for these tools if you are planning on re-roofing your home.

The tools needed for roofing

Tools for demolition

There are times when old roofing materials need to be discarded to make room for the new materials. Various tools can be used by DIY enthusiast for pulling out the old roof tiles. This also depends on the kind of roof. Tools such as pry bars, roof scrapers and batten lifters can be used to eradicate old roof tiles or shingles.

Hammers for roofing

Short roofing nails are most popularly used to fasten shingled roofs. Straight-claw hammers are commonly used as they provide the required leverage that is necessary to pull out old shingles. If a person wants to go for power tools, they can always use electric hammers or hammer staplers.

Different screwdrivers

Roofing materials like screws are usually used to patch the roof together. This can be done using screw drivers that are manually operated. But, those who wish to save time and energy can use roofing screw guns. These are designed to work screws to the extent of eliminating the need for a drill bit.

Pliers, saws and cutters

The large-nosed flat grip is more commonly used to put pressure along the seam. Needle nose and conventional vise are the other types of grips available to the user. Roofing materials have to be strong enough to do any kind of tedious work. Air or utility knives can be used to cut through shingles. Use a slater's hammer, axe and ripper for slate roof tiles.
