How to identify and fix roof leakages

Roof leakages are inevitable due to unfavourable climatic conditions. This eventually causes water and moisture to seep into your house. Therefore, it is recommended that you spot and fix these leakages as soon as possible. Given below are some tips which will come in handy while fixing such leakages:

Locate leaks

This is the first step for fixing roof leakages. You can easily locate leakages above the ceiling or the exterior wall. Such leakages can be located with a flashlight. Direct the light at the attic floor, especially when it is raining. Look around for standing pools of water or wet insulation.

Underside of the roof

Observe the underside of the roof. Mould is an indication that your roof is leaking. Check the roof planes and intersection near dormers. Look around chimneys and plumbing vents. These are some of the common areas for roof leakages.

Roofing felt

If leakage exists, it is a sign that your roofing material requires replacement. You will have to replace the roofing felt if you want to get rid of the leakage once and for all. Replacing roofing felt will prevent the entry of moisture as well. This in turn will reduce your maintenance expenses as well.

Expert help

It is recommended that you consult an expert roofing contractor to spot such leakages. These professionals are well versed in locating leakages. They also have the necessary equipment to seal these leakages once and for all.

Consider these useful points and identify roof leakages.
