Felt paper

Roof shingles might paint the picture of a sweet and secure roof. But mere shingles do not make a complete roofing system. The roofing starts with decking. In the process of decking, usually the plywood sheets are installed above the trusses. Then over the plywood decking underlayment is applied. Over this, roofing covers such as clay, tiles and shingles are installed. This is what makes a complete and weather proof roofing system. Every layer of the roof system protects the preceding layer from the elements.

The essential felt paper roofing supplies

Felt paper is pivotal for a strong and protective roof system for homes. Along with other roofing supplies it makes for an ideal roofing system. It protects the roof shingles as well as the underneath layers. It plays the role of a waterproof layer, safeguarding and securing your home environment from moisture and leakage. Felt paper is available in different weights for the different roofing supplies and requirements.

To make felt paper water and weather resistant, it is saturated with other materials such as asphalt. Some varieties of felt are coated on the exterior with asphalt while others are completely saturated in it.

Installing felt paper is quite easy and simple. The felt paper is first laid out on to the decking. It can be then held into position and nailed using fasteners. For nailing the felt paper, it is best to use capped head nails or roofing nails and metal tins. In this way, felt paper can make for good roofing supplies.
